I,ve been reading about using dietomaceousearth as a flea powder and citris water (lemons boiled in water)spray to get rid of fleas and adding garlic and brewers yeast to food to keep fleas away.Does anyone else use stuff like this for flea control instead of toxic sprays and flea collars? If so does it work?

Sorefoot, I use a Marigold spray made by a company called Eqyss, it works well, I use nothing else except crushed garlic in food (many dogs have yeast sensetivity & can get skin problems from yeast). www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-2348&cn=153&bhcd2=1244231014Diatomaceous Earth works also, especially for premise control, it kills the larvae but must be re-applied after rains. I have never used flea collars, you are correct to not want to use them - look at it this way, we take many meds via patches, they then absorb through the skin, yet we would put a collar with toxin powerful enough to protect an animal head to tail on it's neck. I have seen many animals through the years die from liver cancer whose owners use flea collars, I will not even touch them & make the owner remove it when the dog comes in for grooming. If you have a very bad problem, I do suggest using frontline or Advantage until said problem is controlled, then go to Holistic methods. From my experience (through many client dogs) the Biospot doesn't work as well & many Sargeant products dogs react badly to.

Thanks for the information. I found the Eqyss at local Tractor Supply Company. It was more money but they matched the price in the ad. Molly, my Britt, has been on K9 Advantix since we got her. My sons three rescue hounds are on Biospot. All have tested positive for Lyme even with the vaccine and Advantix. Trying this now. Thanks again and, by the way, Molly really enjoys the goldfish in the pool.
P.S. Does EQyss safely work on cats?

LMAO!!! The fish trick really gives them something to do on hot days & keeps them occupied, doesn't it!! Not sure about cats for the Eqyss, you'd have to look that up or contact the company. I dont bother with the Lyme vac just for the reason it really doesnt work. I always spray my guys prior to a run & have never had a problem, BTW, I spray myself with it for deerflies, not sticky & nasty like Off & seems to work.

I know this is an old post but i was looking through them tonight just trying to pick up information. I've heard many people mention garlic for fleas, but i've also read it is poisonous for dogs. I'm confused.

I know this is an old post but i was looking through them tonight just trying to pick up information. I've heard many people mention garlic for fleas, but i've also read it is poisonous for dogs. I'm confused. You have to give them very large doses to cause any problem. I put crushed garlic in my dogs food several times a week and in their "slop" when I make it.
