How do you display a Sportman's Permit when hunting???
Its in your wallet, the same as a license to carry. The only requirment is that it be carried in conjunction with a valid hunting, fishing or trapping license and can only be used while doing those activities, going to or coming from said activities.
Perhaps the confusion about the SP comes from the wording "the sportman's permit is not a license to carry concealed". Correct, its not. You can't strap on your handgun, stuff your SP and hunting license in your pocket and go to Wal-Mart, the mall, Turkey Hill, etc.
You need a license to carry for those activities. However, as you see in the law I posted above, the Sportman's Permit "does" allow carrying concealed when hunting, fishing, trapping or going to or coming from those activities.
You must also remember, that the hunting laws have changed. You can now carry a semi-auto concealed when hunting. Even in seasons that one would not normally be allowed to carry, like in archery season.
However, the Sportman's Permit does NOT allow you to carry a semi-auto while hunting. Only legal arms for hunting during that specific season can be used.
In other words, if you have a SP, you can carry a revolver concealed while deer hunting since that is a legal weapon for taking game. You could not carry a semi-auto with the SP since that is not a legal weapon for taking game while deer hunting.
If you have a LTC, you could carry a revolver or a semi-auto while hunting. However, a semi-auto is not a legal weapon for hunting and cannot be used to take or put down game. The revolver is legal and can be used to take or put down game.

No problemo. There is a lot of confusion when it comes to PA gun laws. And most of the people with wrong info are LEO's.
